When and How

For one to be applicable to apply for undergraduate programmes for studying architecture, one must have passed the higher secondary school, i.e. the Class XII examination with science subject such as Physics, maths and chemistry.

Preparation for an All India Entrance Exam can be started soon after 10th Class.

Various colleges offer undergraduate course in B.Arch. which lasts for 5 years. The selection is done through an entrance exam conducted by the Council of Architecture throughout India.

The general entrance exam for architecture in India is the NATA (National Aptitude Test). The test scores, along with the class XII scores comprise the eligibility of applicants for the undergraduate course in Architecture (BArch). Some schools in Maharashtra also require candidates to complete the MASA (Maharashtra Association of Schools of Architecture) Common Entrance Test for regional colleges.

Some private colleges offering courses in architecture have their own criteria which are based on +2 marks of students.

Education Progression

The bachelor’s degree is usually four years long. If the student is interested in taking his career forward, eligibility for postgraduate programmes will be on the basis of a bachelor's degree in (B.E/B.Tech) or any other equivalent branches of engineering. The duration for this course is two years. One can also specialize in a particular field if he/she wants to. Specializations such as Lighting, Green building, Construction management, Fire protection engineering, Building transportation systems, Acoustics design and construction are also available apart from many others.
