Eligibility Criteria

The following are eligible:

  • Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma) and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  • Master's degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final year of such programs.
  • Candidates in the second or higher year of Four-year integrated master's degree programs (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering / Technology.
  • Candidates in the fourth or higher year of Five-year integrated master's degree programs or Dual Degree programs in Engineering / Technology.
  • Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UGC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. 

Syllabus

The syllabus for the GATE Exam is:

  • Verbal Ability: English grammar, sentence completion, verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, critical reasoning and verbal deduction.
  • Numerical Ability: Numerical computation, numerical estimation, numerical reasoning and data interpretation.
  • Engineering Mathematics (not for all Papers)
  • Technical Ability: Technical questions related to the Paper chosen

Important Dates

The important dates for GATE 2019 are as follows:

  • GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) Website Opens: 1st September, 2018
  • Closing Date for Submission of Online Application: 23rd September, 2018
  • Enrolment process closes on: 1st October, 2018
  • Extended Closing Date for submission of Online Application: 3rd October,2018
  • Admit Card will be available on online portal: 4th January, 2019
  • GATE Exam 2019 Dates: 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th February, 2019 (9:30 AM to 12:30 Noon) and (2:30 PM to 5:30 PM)
  • Announcement of Results in Online Application Portal: 16th March, 2019

Examination process

  • The exam is of three hours and has 65 questions with maximum marks equal to 100. The exam is conducted online and consists multiple choice and numerical type questions. 
  • The students are first required to apply on the online portal of GATE Exam.
  • Fill in the application form with the required fields of information.
  • If the students are in their final year of degree, they are required to upload a form signed by the head of department, with college seal along with the application form.
  • They have to take the exam on the selected date and alloted center (according to the preference).
  • They have to wait for the result i.e. the normalized score.
  • Apply for admission into masters/doctorate programs of various institutes or various PSUs.
  • Go through the process of various institutes or PSUs as per requirement.
