In this person has to appear for NDA Examination. This examination is conducted by UPSC twice in a year. Notification for exams is released by UPSC in Dec or June. To apply for NDA exam, you can visit http://www.upsc.gov.in. Eligibility criteria to apply:
First, A person has to clear written exam. Examination pattern for NDA is as follows:
then SSB interview is conducted. After clearing SSB interview then 3 years training is conducted in NDA and then 1 year in IMA dehradoon.
TES (Technical Entry Scheme)
Through TES a candidate can join Indian Army Technical and Engineering Branch right after completion of their +2 class. To apply for TES exam, you can visit https://joinindianarmy.nic.in/. Eligibility Criteria for TES:
- Qualification: Only those candidates who have passed 10+2 Examination or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from recognized education boards are eligible to apply for this entry
- Age: 16 ½ to 19 ½ Years
- Gender: Only male unmarried
- Nationality: A citizen of India, or (ii) A subject of Bhutan, or (iii) A subject of Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates shortlisted based on final TES 40 cut off marks. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the TES 40 SSB interview. After clearing both rounds selected candidates get 5 year training. Training details are: (a) Basic Military Training: 1 year (Officer Training Academy, Gaya). (b) Technical Training: (i) Phase-I (Pre Commission Training): 3 Years (CME Pune or MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad), (ii) Phase-II (Post Commission Training): 1 year at CME Pune or MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad. (c) Award of Degree: The candidates will be awarded Engineering degree after successful completion of training.
On successful completion of 4 years of the course cadets will be granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lieutenant.
After Graduation
CDS (Combined Defense Services):
This exam is conducted by UPSC twice in one year for admission to the under mentioned courses:
- Indian Military Academy, Dehradun
- Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai (Madras)
Eligibility criteria for CDS:
- Nationality: (i) a Citizen of India, or (ii) a subject of Bhutan, or (iii) a subject of Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status: (i) For IMA—Unmarried male candidates age 19 to 24 years. (ii) For Officers' Training Academy—(SSC Course for men) unmarried male candidates age 19 to 25 Years. (v) For Officers' Training Academy—(SSC Women Non-Technical Course) Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried, age 19 to 25 years are eligible.
- Educational Qualifications: For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy— Degree of a recognized University or equivalent. Candidates who are studying in the final year/semester Degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply. Candidate should have Physics and Mathematics in +2.
- Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Combined Defense Services Examination.

UES (university Entry Scheme):
Only B.E/B. tech students can apply under this scheme. Advertisement for this scheme generally came in June-July. Application for UES is accepted on Indian Army official website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. Eligibility criteria for UES are:
- Nationality: (i) a Citizen of India, or (ii) a subject of Bhutan, or (iii) a subject of Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- Age Limit: 18 to 24 years
- Gender: Unmarried Male
- Educational Qualification: Only Candidates studying in the Pre-Final year of the Engineering Course in recognized Universities/Institution/Colleges are eligible to apply UES.
Under UES selection is done on the basis of campus and Integrated HQ interviews taken by selection team.
